Why I Founded La Belle Forme
After completing my NHS training as a consultant plastic surgeon — including a higher doctorate (MD) in head and neck cancer surgery at Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow — I saw an opportunity to create something different in private cosmetic surgery.
In 2009, I founded La Belle Forme in Glasgow with a clear vision: to offer patients the same high standards of care I delivered in the NHS, combined with a more personalised, patient-focused experience.
At the time, the cosmetic surgery industry in Scotland was fragmented. Patients often struggled to find surgeons with proper NHS training and specialist qualifications. I wanted La Belle Forme to be different — a place where patients could trust they were in the hands of a fully qualified consultant plastic surgeon, not someone who had taken a weekend course.
"The name La Belle Forme — French for 'beautiful shape' — reflected my philosophy: enhancing natural beauty rather than creating an artificial look."
My Background
I qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1992 and trained in general surgery across the West of Scotland and in Oxford, obtaining the FRCS fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Since 1997, I have worked exclusively in Plastic Surgery departments and centres.
During my higher doctorate research at Canniesburn Hospital, I helped develop a new surgical procedure called sentinel node biopsy in mouth cancer. My research team were the first to perform this successfully in this group of cancers, and I have published many scientific articles on the technique and lectured at international conferences worldwide.
My training covered all aspects of plastic surgery across Glasgow, Edinburgh and Oxford, with particular interests in head and neck cancer, skin cancers and aesthetic surgery. I ended my training with a fellowship in head and neck cancer surgery in Oxford — one of only five specialist fellowships in the country at the time, and the first plastic surgeon to complete such a fellowship.
I have been a consultant and on the specialist register of plastic surgeons since 2006. In 2014, I left the NHS to concentrate exclusively on my personal practice.
Building La Belle Forme
From a single consultation room, La Belle Forme grew into one of Scotland's leading cosmetic surgery clinics. Over the years, we built a reputation for:
- Honest consultations — I never pressure patients into procedures they don't need
- Natural results — Enhancing features rather than changing them completely
- Proper aftercare — Following patients through their entire recovery journey
- Safety first — Operating only in fully accredited surgical facilities
Continuing at La Belle Forme Today
Although I have since sold La Belle Forme, I continue to hold my regular clinics and theatre lists there every week. Patients who book through my practice still receive the same standard of care, performed by me personally at the La Belle Forme facilities in Glasgow.
The sale allowed me to focus purely on surgery and patient care, rather than the business side of running a clinic. For patients, nothing has changed — except that I now have more time to dedicate to each consultation.
