A facelift (rhytidectomy) addresses visible signs of ageing in the face and neck. Rather than simply pulling the skin tight, modern techniques lift and reposition the deeper tissues, creating natural-looking, long-lasting results.
A facelift doesn't treat fine lines, sun damage, or skin texture issues. It also doesn't affect the upper face (forehead, brows, upper eyelids). These may be addressed with complementary procedures or non-surgical treatments.
The standard modern technique. The SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) is the layer of tissue beneath the skin. Lifting and repositioning this layer provides natural, long-lasting results without the "windswept" look of older techniques.
A more extensive lift that releases and repositions tissues at a deeper level. May provide more significant improvement in certain patients.
A less extensive procedure with smaller incisions, suitable for patients with mild to moderate laxity who want a shorter recovery.
Facelift is often combined with:
Swelling and bruising are most prominent in the first 2 weeks. Most patients feel comfortable in public after 2-3 weeks, though subtle swelling continues to settle over several months. The scars are hidden around the ear and within the hairline.
A facelift turns back the clock but doesn't stop it. You'll continue to age naturally, but from a more youthful starting point. Results typically last 10+ years, though this varies between individuals.
There's no ideal age - it depends on your degree of ageing and your goals. Most patients are between 45 and 70, but some younger patients with genetic predisposition to early ageing may benefit earlier.
Modern SMAS techniques lift the deeper tissues rather than just pulling skin tight. The goal is a refreshed, natural appearance - you should look like yourself, just more rested.
Results typically last 10+ years. You'll continue to age naturally, but you'll always look better than you would have without surgery. Some patients choose a secondary procedure later in life.
Incisions are hidden around the ear and within the hairline. With proper healing, they become very inconspicuous and are easily covered by hair.
